- Barry is married to Cindy Pepper and they couple has one daughter, Annaliese.
- When Barry was five his family traveled the seas between Tahiti, Fiji and New Zealand on a boat they built themselves. Their tour lasted five years. Barry and his brothers were educated through correspondence classes and sometimes enrolled in local schools while they ported.
- Barry's mother forced him to take ballet lessons to "round out" his love for rugby, football and baseball.
- Barry has two older brothers, Alex and Doug.
